Change File IconBoost XP lets you change the file icons and there open handlers. You can change not only the icons of a file but also with whom they should be opened. The list on the left side contains the registered extensions on your system. To change the icon say for .txt (text file) select .txt file. The right side will show the default icon of that file. If you want to open the file with other tool say wordpad also press the + button and browse for wordpad. Next lets change the icon of the text document from the plain simple text note to say other icon. Press the ".." buttons labeled under step 3 and browse for icons or dll with icons. We will go for shell32.dll. The below list box will show the icons contained in shell32.dll. Now select an icon and press the apply button as labeled "5". It will change the icon of text documents. To activate the changes you must logoff. Customize FolderBoost XP lets you customize the folders on your system. The first step is to browse for folder you want to customize. Next enter the tool tip text for that folder. It is not compulsory to enter the tip. But it looks nice. Next Browse for icon you want for that folder. Shell32.dll in windows\system32 folder contains many nice icons. You can also browse for other icons. Select an icon in the list box. Next Browse for background image. Currently Boost XP supports all the popular formats JPG, GIF and BMP. Finally press the apply button. That's all.
